More and more people are thinking about purchasing a carport with photovoltaics. In combination with an electricity storage system, this type of solar system is developing into a real alternative for climate neutrality and at the same time as a sustainable energy source for electric vehicles such as e-bikes and the like.
The general public is now becoming increasingly aware of the acceptance and possibilities and more and more operators of public parking spaces such as companies with large corporate parking spaces are thinking about doing their part. The financial advantages are also crucial, but the independent and autonomous power supply is also an important point.

The solar parking lot roofing
Some carports are designed for individual vehicles, but are not designed for several to large solar park systems and are therefore too complicated to plan and implement. It's completely different with the solar carport we favor. It is suitable for individual solar carports as well as for large company or public parking spaces, can be used flexibly as an additional solar charging station and, above all, can be planned. Single carport, double carport or row carport. For any even or odd rows of parking spaces.
For example, 96 vehicles (6 rows of 8 double carports each) and approx. 360 kWp (972 modules with 370 Wp, 1,740×1,030×35 mm) fit on a 50×50 m (2,500m²) area including tram lanes between the parking spaces.
Suitable for:
6 solar modules fit on each carport per parking space. Here we get to the core of the question: How much performance can I expect here?
Polycrystalline models achieve a nominal output of up to 330 Wp. Monocrystalline modules, on the other hand, now come with up to 400 Wp or even more. 6 modules with 185 Wp module power each achieve 1110 W according to standard test conditions. Or just 6 photovoltaic modules with a nominal value of 370 Wp each come to 2220 Wp.
What can I do with 1 kW (= 1000 WP) of electricity generated in one hour?
Drive around 6.7 kilometers in an electric car (with a calculated average energy requirement of 15 kWh per 100 km)
This means, for example, that an employee who charges his vehicle in the company parking lot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. has 9 hours of charging time available. In purely mathematical terms, this would mean 60.3 kilometers of driving energy (9 hours x 6.7 km) according to standard test conditions.
As already mentioned above, when using modules with a higher rated power than 185 Wp, much higher ranges such as 60.3 kilometers are possible! With a nominal power of 370 Wp per module, for example, that would be 120.6 kilometers.
Depending on the model, electric cars require between 8 and 25 kWh for a distance of 100 km. A Danish study, on the other hand, cites 18.3 kWh per 100 km as the average value under realistic conditions. With an annual mileage of 15,000 km, that's between 1200 and 3750 kWh.
In combination with an electricity storage system, the charging times are of course completely different and the maximum yield via photovoltaics is also possible with an electricity storage system. In this constellation, a solar filling station becomes really interesting.
Electricity generated by the solar charging station that is not used directly to charge the vehicle is usually fed into the power grid. Conversely, energy can also be taken from the power grid to charge vehicles. Only very few solar filling stations use their own solar batteries. The accumulators cannot yet be operated economically when connected to the mains. However, in the future, their use can represent an option for keeping the grid connection capacity within limits, especially given the short charging times in the range of minutes and the high outputs required in the two- and three-digit kilowatt range.
Which solar carport system is recommended?
There are already many good approaches. However, the requirements are usually different. We advise and, if necessary, we also plan for you. A solar parking lot roof with solar carports must be suitable for individual open parking spaces as well as large company or public parking spaces, be flexible in use as an additional solar charging station and, above all, be plannable.
