Best practice solar carport: What trade and industry in Baden-Württemberg need to know now
With the solar requirement in the state, a lot will change in Baden-Württemberg from January 1, 2022. This affects non-public parking spaces larger than 75 parking spaces. This will primarily affect trade, commerce and industry. Anyone who builds new buildings from 2022 will then have to equip the parking spaces with photovoltaics for their customers and staff.
Many questions need to be clarified. Many are confronted with this topic for the first time and good advice is expensive. Xpert.Solar offers customer advice on a B2B basis for companies as well as interested solar installers. use the solar installer search function on our Xpert.Solar Over 13,000 solar technicians from the German-speaking countries of Germany, Austria and Switzerland are listed here.

Solar carports, especially for commercial and industrial purposes, have to meet different conditions than for private installations. As a rule, private solar carports or private carports in general do not have collision protection. Private carports are usually built primarily on a wooden structure. The rule applies: My carport would rather break down in a collision than my car. With a large solar carport system, the opposite applies. It's about the safety of a large number of parking spaces, which cannot be maintained and maintained in the same way as a single private carport. A wooden structure requires regular care. This can be a problem with large solar carport systems.
The requirements for large solar carport systems are therefore:
- Scalable and modular construction of solar carports . The possibility of expansion must be given
- Durable material and weather resistance that rarely requires maintenance
- Collision protection is important
- Compatibility with other systems such as charging stations, power storage and more
Suitable for:
- Solar carports: company parking spaces – sensible use of sealed areas
- Are solar farms the most popular electricity generation systems?
Open parking spaces are usually:
- A storage area open on the side walls, not a barn or shed or similar.
- Carports, covered parking spaces
- Uncovered parking spaces
- Parking available on a property
- Outdoor parking spaces
Our solar parking solution is modular and scalable:
- Scalable & modular: Available as a single, double or arbitrarily scalable row carport
- Can even be used in the standard version for very high wind and snow loads (s k = 2.2 kN/m²)
- Extra large and wide parking spaces and very easy parking thanks to W-shaped supports
- High-quality design for sophisticated and long-lasting requirements: Hot-dip galvanized steel construction (DIN EN 10346, DIN EN 1461)
- Quick and easy assembly
- Stable strip foundation as collision protection
- Individually customizable design (color, materials, surface, size, etc.)
- Installation of charging stations and inverters is possible at any time
Why solar carports?
The demand for electric vehicles is increasing. The population has increased more than fifty-fold worldwide since 2012. In 2007 there were a total of 8 new registrations of electric cars in Germany. 2019 194,163 new registrations of electric vehicles! From January to May 2021 there were already 115,296 new registrations. The trend will continue to develop accordingly. Solar carports are already interesting investment goods. This also means an increase in the attractiveness of the production and company location for personnel and customer development.

Industrial flat roof solar systems and solar parks or outdoor photovoltaic systems are another alternative
If you are thinking of investing in a solar carport , a solar system on the company roof is also recommended. Exploiting any energy potential for an emission-free and autonomous power supply is also a competitive advantage and securing market shares.
More about it here:
Charging stations and charging infrastructure
A solar carport alone is not enough. Fundamental questions need to be clarified. Should the energy generated be fed into the grid or parked in energy or electricity storage? What are the load profiles, the technical connection conditions, number of charging stations, vehicle downtime and ultimately the specified total PV output? Will the charges be recorded with the company if the employee charges their company car from home? These are questions that we will have to deal with in the future. It is different from what we are used to today.

Number of electric cars worldwide from 2012 to 2020
New record for the global number of electric cars - around 10.9 million electric cars were registered worldwide in 2020, over three million vehicles more than in the previous year. The stock has increased more than fifty-fold since 2012. In view of increasing air pollution and dependence on fossil fuels, alternative drives such as electromobility are playing an increasingly important role in motorized individual transport.
New car registrations with alternative drives in Germany
Number of new registrations of passenger cars with alternative drives in Germany in 2019 and 2020: Hybrid vehicles are the most common alternative to the conventional fuel types petrol and diesel - a total of around 527,900 passenger cars with hybrid drives were newly registered in 2020. Hybrid drives combine different drive technologies. Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), for example, have an internal combustion engine and also an electric motor that draws its energy from a rechargeable battery. Battery electric cars (BEVs) were the second most newly registered among alternative drive systems. Battery electric vehicles draw their energy exclusively from a built-in and rechargeable battery. The alternative fuels natural gas and liquid gas played a relatively minor role.
Electric vehicles are eligible for subsidies in Germany
The purchase (or leasing) of various types of electric cars can be subsidized in Germany through the so-called environmental bonus. Vehicles that are registered for the first time are eligible for funding. To date, environmental bonuses have most often been applied for purely battery-powered electric vehicles.
Alternative drives with growing market share
Both hybrid cars and electric cars have seen greater demand in recent years. The proportion of cars with diesel and gasoline engines is falling accordingly.
