Are solar farms the most popular electricity generation systems?

According to a recent survey, ground-mounted photovoltaic systems in particular receive high approval at 62% for the construction of solar parks as energy suppliers in the neighborhood. Nuclear power plants are far behind at 5% and coal-fired power plants are far behind at 4%.

Outdoor photovoltaic system with or without government funding?

A solar park is an outdoor solar system that is not set up on a building or on a facade, but rather at ground level in an open area. A solar park is a permanently installed system in which the photovoltaic modules are aligned at an optimal angle to the sun (azimuth) using a substructure.

Ground-mounted photovoltaic systems can now also be built without government funding. These projects do not make use of the EEG levy ; they refinance themselves solely through their own consumption of electricity.

Through scale (production volume) and synergy effects, large solar fields reduce the cost of electricity generation to such an extent that EEG compensation is no longer necessary. The increasingly cheaper prices for solar modules have contributed to this.

What is the process for building a ground-mounted photovoltaic system?

Before construction begins, ground-mounted solar systems usually go through an approval process in the municipality. In order to be able to use an area, it must be changed to a “solar special area” land use plan development plan is also necessary that creates building rights in the relevant area. The land-use planning . It examines the spatial significance and environmental compatibility of the project and should involve all citizens and those responsible for public affairs. In addition to the size of the system, space consumption and technology, an important basis for decision-making is the green space plan . He describes how the planned open space facility will be integrated into the landscape and how it will be ecologically enhanced. After hearing from all parties involved, the municipality approves the development plan. The building permit is then issued.

What are the requirements for EEG funding?

The EEG in Germany only provides for the application of the remuneration rates for certain open spaces (§ 37, § 48 EEG 2017):

  • Sealed surfaces . A seal is when the surface of the floor is sealed. Therefore, electricity from systems on roads, parking spaces, landfill areas, embankments, storage and parking areas and the like is also compensated.
  • Conversion areas for commercial, traffic, residential or military use. Conversion areas can include, for example, waste dumps, former open-cast mining areas, military training areas and ammunition depots.
  • Areas along motorways or railways at a distance of up to 110 meters.
  • Arable land and grassland, only if they are located in a disadvantaged area in accordance with Directive 86/465/EEC and have been approved for PV use by the federal states.

The substructure of solar power plants usually only seals a fraction of the natural surface, often less than 0.05% of the actual ground area. The space between the individual rows, which is required to counteract shading of individual rows of modules when the sun is low, contributes to an improvement in ecological quality.
