2020 – Infographic: The Printzukunft looks bleak
According to the IVW, the sold edition of the national daily newspapers in the first quarter of 2020 was 2.2 million copies – that is 7.5 percent less than in the same period last year. For comparison: in 2010 there were still around five million copies. The image (including BZ) is severely affected by the print crisis, which recently lost around eight percent of its edition in the year. And this is far from being reached, as a forecast based on the quarterly editions has shown since 1998. According to this, the boulevard newspaper sold will fall on around 890,000 copies by the first quarter of 2025. The total circulation of the national daily newspapers would drop to around 1.6 million in this scenario.
2018 – Sold edition shrinks to 2.5 million – picture loses 47 percent
The national daily newspapers in Germany are currently coming to around 2.5 million (-7.6% ggü. Q3 2017). This emerges from current data from the information community to determine the distribution of advertising media (IVW) for the third quarter of 2018. At the beginning of the decade it was almost 1.8 million more. The edition of the image has shrunk by 47 percent compared to the first quarter of 2010 – in fact, the decline should be even higher because the edition reported to the IVW still contains BZ (since Q2 2013) and football image (from Q1 2017).
