Animated logistics with Microsoft's HoloLens
Strictly speaking, it was a European premiere. The HoloLens wasn't officially available in Europe yet. " Anyone wanting to use the HoloLens previously had to order it through a somewhat cumbersome process involving an address in the USA or Canada ." But we had already been using the HoloLens at the trade fair in Sweden!
With XpertDigital, Kardex Remstar brought mixed reality to the Transport & Logistics trade fair
At this year's Logistics & Transport, Scandinavia's leading supply chain and logistics trade fair, which took place in Gothenburg from November 16-17, Kardex Remstar presented its wide range of automated storage and retrieval solutions in a highly innovative way.
For the first time, virtual presentation techniques were used, offering visitors entirely new insights into intralogistics. In addition to the traditional trade fair presentation, the Kardex Remstar Vertical Buffer Module LR 35 was virtually presented using Microsoft's new HoloLens headset . The highly vivid presentation, incorporating quasi-realistic elements and allowing digital interaction with the device, created a simulation that gave viewers the feeling of being right in the middle of the action.

In addition to the HoloLens , other virtual reality headsets and augmented reality technologies were used, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the company's digital world. Using the VR headsets, interested parties embarked on an animated 360° tour through Kardex Remstar's product range. Head movements or finger navigation allowed users to control the direction and access detailed information on individual features of the storage and retrieval systems.

Augmented reality played a key role at the booth. The AR presentation focused on the Vertical Buffer Module LR35. Using an app, interested parties could scan an image of the LR35 with various provided iPad tablets, generating a three-dimensional view on their screen. With a tap of their finger, they could rotate the view of the device and zoom in on details. Another tap removed the system's casing, allowing viewers a detailed look at the storage processes inside the unit.
