Can a new iPad revive Apple's tablet business?

Following Apple's annual September event, another launch event will take place on October 30th in New York, dedicated to the rest of its product range. Under the motto "There's more in the making," the company is expected to unveil several new devices on Tuesday, with the MacBook line and iPad Pro being among the most likely to receive a facelift.

The iPad in particular could undergo a major redesign this year to match the latest iPhone models – meaning, among other things, no more home button and the removal of the 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The iPad remains the world's best-selling tablet, although it has lost some of its initial appeal in recent years, as the chart shows. Sales have declined for four consecutive years since 2013, partly due to longer upgrade cycles compared to Apple's mobile phones. Furthermore, the rise of phablets has slowed the strong growth in the tablet market.
