But this breakthrough is just the tip of the iceberg. Through extremely efficient, memory-saving architectures and an aggressive open-source strategy, Chinese developers are currently undercutting Western AI giants massively on price, forcing them into relentless competition. With LingBot-Map, the Chinese company Robbyant, a subsidiary of the Ant Group, has released a model that generates a three-dimensional reconstruction of the environment from an ordinary video stream in real time. No lidar, no calibration frame, no special hardware. A single camera is sufficient to build a complete geometric model of a room as it moves through it, frame by frame, without pause and without subsequent optimization. The model processes around twenty frames per second on a single graphics card and remains stable even after more than ten thousand frames, as demonstrated in a public demonstration of an approximately thirteen-minute indoor tour with roughly twenty-five thousand frames. This technical footnote is, in reality, an economic earthquake because it exemplifies how the cost structure of the entire AI and robotics industry is changing, especially under the feet of established providers.

What's remarkable here isn't so much the sheer speed record, but rather how the model handles memory. Instead of storing every single past frame, as many previous streaming methods did, thus causing the computational effort to grow inexorably over time, LingBot-Map makes do with three compact building blocks: an anchor point for positioning in the coordinate system, a local window for the immediate surrounding geometry, and a trajectory memory that corrects long-term deviations. Chinese open-source models undercut comparable American proprietary offerings by sixty to ninety percent, as a representative of the OpenRouter platform publicly confirmed. A model like MiniMax M2.5 achieved nearly identical results on a key software engineering benchmark as the top model from a major American vendor, but cost only a fraction of the price—specifically, about seventeen times less per processed text unit. This combination of comparable quality and drastically lower price explains why American developers are increasingly using Chinese models for computationally intensive, automated workflows, even though their own governments view the use of Chinese AI systems critically for security reasons.

From the laboratory to the factory floor: Practical applications of the technology

The real breakthrough of LingBot-Map lies not in an academic record, but in the practical accessibility of the technology for applications that previously required expensive, specialized sensors.
