Wachstum der weltweiten Windindustrie

Die Windindustrie ist die am schnellsten wachsende Energiesparte der Welt. Allein im Jahr 2020 hat die Leistung der neuinstallierten Windenergieanlagen etwa 93 Gigawatt entsprochen. Noch vor 20 Jahren wurden innerhalb eines Jahres nur etwa 6,5 Gigawatt ans weltweite Stromnetz angeschlossen, wie die Grafik auf Basis von GWEC-Daten zeigt. Das liegt einerseits an der technischen Entwicklung immer effizienterer Windräder, andererseits gehen auch immer mehr Länder mit dem globalen Trend zu erneuerbaren Energien. So ist die neuinstallierte Leistung von 2001 bis 2010 mit einer jährlichen Wachstumsrate von rund 22 Prozent angestiegen. In den folgenden Jahren verlangsamte sich das Wachstum jedoch wieder etwas. Der größte Anteil an neuinstallierten Windenergieanlagen entfällt auf China – die Volksrepublik war 2020 für rund die Hälfte aller neugebauten On- und Offshore-Windanlagen verantwortlich. Die wichtigsten europäischen Märkte sind Deutschland und Großbritannien. Die beiden Nationen sind vor allem im Offshore-Bereich aktiv. Gemeinsam betreiben sie etwa 51 Prozent aller vor der Küste gelegenen Windräder.

Growth of the global wind industry

The wind industry is the fastest growing energy sector in the world. In 2020 alone, the capacity of newly installed wind turbines was equivalent to about 93 gigawatts. Just 20 years ago, only about 6.5 gigawatts were connected to the global power grid within one year, as shown in the graphic based on GWEC data. On the one hand, this is due to the technical development of increasingly efficient wind turbines; on the other hand, more and more countries are also moving with the global trend toward renewable energies. For example, from 2001 to 2010, newly installed capacity increased at an annual growth rate of around 22 percent. In the following years, however, growth slowed down again somewhat. China accounts for the largest share of newly installed wind turbines – the People’s Republic was responsible for around half of all newly built onshore and offshore wind turbines in 2020. The most important European markets are Germany and the United Kingdom. The two nations are particularly active in the offshore sector. Together, they operate around 51 percent of all offshore wind turbines.
