What can be done for greater cybersecurity?

The data breach affecting 1,000 politicians, celebrities, and journalists has once again brought the issue of data protection and security into sharp focus. A survey from last year reveals which cybersecurity measures Germans support. Nearly half of those surveyed want the government to hold website operators more accountable. A similar number would like to see more funding allocated to cybersecurity for the relevant authorities. Around 37 percent are in favor of allowing the government to conduct counterattacks (“hack back”) in the event of cyberattacks.

A survey conducted last year showed which measures Germans are in favor of to increase cyber security. Almost every second respondent wants the government to make website operators more accountable. Similarly, many would like to see more money made available to the responsible authorities for cyber security. Around 37 percent are in favor of the government being allowed to counterattack cyber attacks (“hack back”).
