The online clothing trade is booming. Despite the apparent omnipotence of the online retailer Amazon, companies like Zalando from Berlin and the well-known mail-order company Otto from Hamburg, which is also effectively represented multiple times through its subsidiaries Bonprix, Baur and About You, are among the highest-grossing retailers in Germany.
As our infographic with data from ecommerceDB.com shows, the top ten mail-order companies also include the online stores of Lidl and Tchibo, which originally specialized in the trade of food and coffee respectively, but now successfully serve the so-called non-food sector.

When the postman brings the fashion
Online retail has been competing with brick-and-mortar stores for some time now, exhibiting high growth rates. This trend has also reached the clothing sector. As the infographic based on the 2018 Consumer and Media Analysis shows, online fashion shops have become significantly more popular with shoppers. While 2.3 million people primarily bought clothing online in 2014, this number had risen to 3.86 million by 2017. This represents a growth of approximately 66 percent. However, traditional brick-and-mortar clothing stores remain the most popular: in 2017, they were the preferred shopping destination for fashion for around 41 million people.
