Natasha Anne Bedingfield (born November 26, 1981) is a British singer and songwriter. She released her debut album, *Unwritten*, in 2004, which consisted mainly of up-tempo pop songs influenced by R&B music. With over 2.3 million copies sold worldwide, it was an international success. Bedingfield was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the title track, "Unwritten," and she was nominated for Best British Female Artist at the Brit Awards in both 2005 and 2006. *Unwritten* also produced her only UK number-one hit, "These Words.".

Up-tempo is a musical term for fast, very fast, or increased tempo. The term originates from popular music, exists in German as an Anglicism, and is not entirely precisely defined. Up-tempo interpretations are particularly common in fun punk.

Her second album, NB (2007), spawned the UK Top 10 singles “I Wanna Have Your Babies” and “Soulmate.” NB was not released in North America, but six tracks from it were re-recorded with seven new ones and released in 2008 as her third studio album, Pocketful of Sunshine, with the singles “Love Like This” and “Pocketful of Sunshine” charting. In December 2010, Bedingfield released her third album, Strip Me, in North America, which debuted at number 91 on the US Billboard Hot 100 with the title track. Bedingfield has sold over 10 million albums and 10 million singles worldwide, for a total of over 20 million records sold globally. In 2012, Bedingfield was ranked number 66 on VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.

As a teenager, Bedingfield founded the dance/electronic group 'The DNA Algorithm' with her siblings Daniel and Nikola. The group gave Bedingfield the opportunity to explore different musical genres and expand her songwriting skills. She provided vocals for the group, which primarily played dance-pop music about independence and self-determination, themes that later reappeared in her own solo compositions. At the age of 14, Bedingfield sang on the album Origins Refined Intricacy (Steelyard Records).

Bedingfield attended the University of Greenwich for a year, where she studied psychology, before leaving to focus on singing and songwriting. She initially recorded demos in the garages of friends who owned recording studios and submitted them to record companies. During the 1990s and early 2000s, Bedingfield composed and recorded songs for Hillsong London Church. In 2004, her recordings appeared on the church's live album, *Shout God's Fame*, and on Hillsong Music Australia's children's album, *Jesus Is My Superhero*.

Bedingfield has donated time and money to organizations such as Global Angels, an international children's aid organization founded by her mother, Molly Bedingfield. She joined the organization in 2006, saying she hoped to "help people all over the world, especially children living in conditions that would horrify us." Now an ambassador for Global Angels, Bedingfield spent three weeks in India in November 2006 supporting the organization. She visited an orphanage in Kolkata and a refugee camp for former child prostitutes in Mumbai to learn about the situation and conditions in these areas. Bedingfield later expressed shock at what she witnessed. Video diaries she filmed during her trip were posted on their official website in early 2007. She also supports Stop the Traffick, a global coalition working to end human trafficking, and is a member of the (RED) campaign. In Justin Dillon's 2008 rock documentary Call+Response, Bedingfield played acoustic versions of "Unwritten" and "Soulmate" to support the film's cause: a movement against modern slavery and human trafficking.

In 2004, Bedingfield expressed interest in acting and made her debut in November 2005 in the James Bond video game 'From Russia with Love'. She portrayed Elizabeth Stark, the British Prime Minister's daughter, who is kidnapped in the opening sequence. Bedingfield said she would like to do more acting, but only if the film was "good enough and the role suited me." She made a guest appearance in the seventh-season finale of the Canadian television series Degrassi: The Next Generation. Bedingfield also guest-starred in the Nickelodeon series 'The Naked Brothers Band's Christmas Special' alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Leon Thomas III. She also made guest appearances on the NBC series Lipstick Jungle.

In November 2009, she had a guest role on the Nickelodeon series True Jackson, VP, singing the song "These Words." In 2012, Bedingfield appeared in three episodes of the fourth season of Web Therapy. In December 2012, VH1 announced that Bedingfield would perform at the 2012 VH1 Divas Show, a benefit concert for the Save the Music Foundation. Bedingfield sang "Groove Is in the Heart" by Deee-Lite with Bootsy Collins and Iggy Azalea. On September 22, 2014, Bedingfield performed "Love Song to the Earth" at the 2014 United Nations Equator Prize Gala in New York City. The song is a special anthem she co-wrote with Toby Gad for the 2014 United Nations Climate Action Summit.
