Auf 100 Menschen in Deutschland kommen derzeit laut Organisation für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (OECD) rund 41 Breitbandanschlüsse. Damit belegt die Bundesrepublik den siebten Platz im Ranking aller OECD-Staaten und liegt damit in Punkto Breitbandverfügbarkeit sogar vor der Hochtechnologie-Nation Japan. Zumindest auf den ersten Blick. In Japan sind nämlich rund 77 Prozent aller Breitbandanschlüsse an Glasfaserkabel angeschlossen. Hierzulande kommen dagegen von 100 Einwohnern nur 1,1 in den Genuss dieser Technologie.
