Do people act more ethically than computers?

An ethics commission appointed by Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) is presenting its guidelines for self-driving cars on German roads today. The guidelines comprise 20 rules, but the experts also warn against total surveillance by connected cars. Furthermore, the report provides recommendations on how decisions should be made in the event of accidents involving autonomous vehicles. A survey published by the ADAC (German Automobile Club shows that most respondents (37 percent) currently trust human drivers more than autonomous vehicles. However, one in five considers the ethical judgment of both to be equal, while 15 percent believe autonomous vehicles are capable of more ethical behavior, as the following graphic illustrates.
