The German games fair Gamescom is opening its doors again in Cologne these days. This year, for the first time, over 1,000 exhibitors will be represented. This is hardly surprising, as Germans are crazy about computer games: As the infographic from Statista, based on data from the German Games Industry Association (Game) , shows, revenue from computer games has risen steadily in recent years. The data includes games for PC, console, and mobile devices, including handhelds, tablets, and smartphones. It also includes revenue from subscriptions, premium accounts, and the sale of virtual add-ons (so-called in-app purchases). The latter, in particular, is a major growth driver for the industry. The number of Germans who play computer and video games has remained stable at over 34 million since 2014.
