According to a survey of logistics experts in Germany, employed in logistics operations or IT services, a majority (28%) stated that RFID for object tracking has only moderate relevance for their company. However, 21% considered it highly relevant, and 15% indicated it was very relevant.
Expert survey on RFID in the logistics industry in Germany: How do you assess the relevance of RFID for object tracking for your company?
- 1 Very high relevance – 15%
- 2. High relevance – 21%
- 3. Moderate relevance – 28%
- 4 Low relevance – 17%
- 5 Very low relevance – 14%
- I don't know – 3%
- No information – 2%
Another example is the relevance of drones in logistics. For 36% of respondents, drones have very little relevance, while for 21% and 22% respectively, they have moderate to low relevance. Technologies like RFID, drones, and other, undoubtedly innovative, ideas should always be kept in mind, but it's also important to assess whether they make sense for one's own company and offer added value. It also depends on the specific question being asked and, above all, on the industry or product type.

- We offer organizational and planning ideas through to turnkey solutions.
Logistics also includes knowing how the market moves
Automation is only part of the solution. Global markets are also constantly changing. A fixed strategy and long-term logistics planning are not possible without modular and flexible agitation models.
Advantage through efficient spare parts logistics

Not necessarily the most efficient solution: chaotic storage in a classic rack warehouse – Image: Nejron Photo|Shutterstock.com
Workshops and spare parts warehouses often use conventional storage systems (e.g., static shelving units or drawer cabinets) where a wide range of mostly small wear and spare parts are stored unpackaged or in boxes and containers. However, this type of storage, along with the usually manual order management, is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Furthermore, the large product range and the high volume of orders increase the risk of errors in selecting and shipping items. But for companies, time is money, and mistakes cost time. This increases the pressure to always have the right part available at the right time. So, what needs to happen to make this a reality in the warehouse?

Contract logistics – service providers for logistics – 80% of all larger companies use them!
In the face of ever-increasing competition and the resulting pressure for continuous productivity gains, outsourcing non-core business areas has become a top management priority. This often includes logistics, whose processes are increasingly being outsourced, at least partially, to external service providers. As a result, the specialized logistics services sector has experienced rapid growth in recent decades. In Germany, for example, revenue from outsourced logistics services now exceeds €100 billion.
Contract logistics providers combine a range of logistical tasks into a service package tailored specifically to their clients' needs. Their services often extend beyond simply transporting and storing goods. Due to their specialization, these providers develop significant industry- and client-specific expertise. This knowledge enables them to perform the services more efficiently and cost-effectively than the client company could otherwise.

Green intralogistics – for a sustainable supply chain
Sustainable production, environmental protection, and the reduction of CO2 emissions have become firmly established corporate goals for a growing number of companies. This trend, which cuts across all sectors, results on the one hand from stricter government regulations and on the other hand from a changed environmental awareness among customers, who are increasingly demanding sustainable products.
Even if they haven't inherently guided their business practices with ecological considerations, more and more companies are at least partially switching to green production. In the fashion industry, for example, alongside all the fast fashion from large chains and labels with their collections sometimes changing every two weeks, there are a number of companies committed to sustainable production. They are characterized by the sparing use of ecologically sound raw materials, resource-conserving manufacturing, and the durability of their products. Their goal is to keep their carbon footprint as small as possible and thus avoid unnecessarily burdening the environment. The proportion of these green companies, which have firmly anchored sustainability in their principles and strategies, is constantly growing. A similar trend can be observed in companies in the food, agricultural, and consumer goods industries.

Robotics in warehouse logistics – why it’s not (quite) ready yet
For some time now, the intralogistics world has been swept up in a wave of automation, originating in the early days of Industry 4.0 . There's a lot of talk about robots, which are often used synonymously with automation. This isn't entirely accurate, as the most important prerequisite for robotics is that the systems possess artificial intelligence. While automation relies on standardized processes, robotics also incorporates variable workflows. These are processes that are particularly important for the storage and order picking of heterogeneous product ranges. However, there's still a long way to go before the challenges of handling differently sized items with varying textures are solved and robotic order picking runs smoothly.
Initial steps have been successfully taken. Dynamic storage systems already offer excellent prerequisites for future full automation. Currently, the process typically involves goods being automatically delivered via conveyor technology and then placed into assigned trays by order pickers. From there, the control software transports and stores them in their designated location within the vertical or horizontal storage lift. When an item is requested, the system presents it to the warehouse worker at their central workstation, following the ergonomic goods-to-person principle. Long distances are eliminated, and the modern software ensures that the correct parts are always retrieved. Support technologies such as pick-by-light increase the precision of access to nearly 100 percent while simultaneously accelerating the process. The order picker then removes the item and prepares it for shipping or further processing.

Predictive logistics in e-commerce
Purchased yesterday – delivered tomorrow: Not so long ago, delivering ordered goods within 48 hours was a mark of quality that allowed online retailers to differentiate themselves from their competitors. However, since next-day delivery became widespread and some providers began delivering on the same day, extremely short delivery times are not only normal for many customers, but explicitly demanded.
Until now, delivery times have been subject to natural limitations that could only be extended further with significant technological effort. In addition to establishing a comprehensive network of decentralized warehouses and expanding transport fleets, predictive logistics is a key area for optimization.
