Schleswig-Holstein and Baden-Württemberg are leading the way in renewable energy. This is the result of a comparison of German states commissioned by the Agency for Renewable Energies (AEE) . According to the researchers, these two states are making the greatest efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in the heating sector and are virtually tied in terms of index points achieved (0.555 and 0.554 out of a maximum of one point). They also have particularly ambitious targets for expanding renewable energy and for climate protection. Saarland comes in last with 0.248 points. The authors attest to the state's limited success in expanding renewable energy and its lack of a coherent energy policy program.
No federal state can rest on its laurels. Experts are calling for further efforts from all states to achieve the federal government's climate targets. To serve as role models, states could, for example, lead by example and supply their properties with more renewable energy than before.
The overall result incorporates four indicator groups that measure efforts and successes in the use of renewable energies and in technological and economic change. The overall result, shown in the map, is derived from these indicators.
