When standard solutions aren't enough: LTW Intralogistics redefines heavy-load handling – Image: LTW Intralogistics GmbH
Innovative intralogistics solutions for extreme dimensions and highest requirements
In modern production and logistics operations, the demands for flexibility, availability, and safety are constantly increasing. Especially in industries where extremely large, long, or heavy goods need to be moved, traditional intralogistics systems quickly reach their limits. LTW Intralogistics, however, impressively demonstrates that even extraordinary challenges can be overcome, setting new standards with specialized systems capable of handling payloads of up to 18 tons – and even more if required.
Technological strength thanks to the Doppelmayr Group
A key factor in our success is our close ties to the Doppelmayr Group. Many components of the LTW systems are manufactured by the world market leader in ropeway systems – a company where large, load-bearing, and high-precision components are commonplace. Customers thus benefit from outstanding quality and exceptional flexibility in realizing customized heavy-duty solutions.
This allows us to develop stacker cranes capable of moving loads over 30 meters long or weighing up to 18 tons.
Tailor-made planning from idea to implementation
What sets LTW apart is its holistic approach to the system. Planning and design are carried out entirely in-house before manufacturing is handled by Doppelmayr. Close collaboration with customers is always central to this process: First, the specific requirements are thoroughly understood and then translated into highly customized designs.
Experienced technical teams accompany the entire process and ensure that solutions are implemented that were previously unavailable in any modular system or standard.
Heavy-lift projects that set standards
Over the years, LTW has implemented a wide range of exceptional installations – from wood panel production to material manufacturers. A particular milestone was the first stacker crane for 31-meter-long goods with a simultaneous payload of 13.5 tons.
This system consists of two stacker crane frames that support a three-section lifting carriage with a total width of approximately 31 meters. The total weight of the unit, including the payload, is an impressive 80 tons – a project that impressively underscores the company's innovative strength and engineering expertise.
Container storage: Even heavier, even more flexible
With its first container storage facility, LTW achieved another quantum leap. A 20-meter-high storage and retrieval machine with an 18-ton payload was implemented for the Swiss Federal Office for Defence Procurement (armasuisse).
The high-bay warehouse with 206 storage locations enables the secure storage of a wide variety of container types, including swap bodies and roll-off containers. A special feature is the unique gate system, which allows even minor maintenance work to be carried out directly at the storage location – a significant advantage for operations. Furthermore, a dual drive system guarantees maximum availability and operational reliability.
Conclusion
These examples demonstrate that when it comes to large dimensions, extreme loads, or demanding custom solutions, LTW Intralogistics is among the leading partners in the market. Through the combination of innovative engineering, in-house development expertise, and the manufacturing strength of the Doppelmayr Group, solutions are realized that many would have considered impossible.
