Thanks to mobile games and esports, the gaming industry has grown significantly in recent years. The biggest player is now Tencent: According to New Zoo, the company generated $7.4 billion in revenue from its games division in the first half of 2017. In the same period of the previous year, revenue was $4.9 billion.
Thanks to the purchase of the Finnish game developer Supercell, the Chinese company made more money with its smartphone games than with its PC games for the first time in Q2 2017.
Sony follows in second place with $4.3 billion, as the Statista graphic shows. Activision Blizzard also increased its revenue compared to the same period last year, now reaching $3.4 billion.
