Yesterday, March 21, 2024, I was invited to the Mechanical Engineering Summit 2024. The summit was organized by Alibaba.com Germany, a company that, despite its global presence, is only at the beginning of its involvement in the German B2B sector.
I was aware that the focus of this event – mastering digital export – not only presents a challenge but also an outstanding opportunity for medium-sized companies in Germany. For the German mechanical engineering sector, I see a great opportunity to leverage our industry's strengths – namely quality and technological superiority – on an international level, and in particular to target the Chinese market and beyond.

The exchange of ideas and the innovative solutions presented there gave me deep insights into the potential available to us, but also into the obstacles that need to be overcome. With a global perspective, I believe it is important to explore the opportunities and challenges of the global B2B market – and China in particular. The country is not only a huge market, but also one whose groundedness and dynamism demand tailored strategies. German goods, products, and machinery are known for their quality, and I am convinced that it is of paramount importance to emphasize these strengths in our export approach.

The questions that drive me in mechanical engineering delve into the depths of digitalization and market expansion: How can my company achieve global visibility? What's the most effective way to take the step towards digitalization? How do I successfully establish B2B e-commerce in mechanical engineering? Which marketing approach best reaches my target groups? How do I connect with new customers in new markets? These and other questions were discussed at the summit, with a focus on practical solutions on the Alibaba.com e-commerce platform.

My discussions with Alibaba's employees revealed their strong interest in gaining a deep understanding of the specific requirements of the German mechanical engineering sector. I observed a palpable openness and willingness to learn, which is essential for future collaboration and mutual success. I am optimistic that Alibaba, with its strong global presence and e-commerce expertise, can be the ideal partner to effectively showcase our mechanical engineering products on the world stage.
