Logistics: Sales stagnated in 2020

The year 2020 was not very successful for most logistics companies worldwide. Many logistics providers experienced only slight changes in revenue compared to the previous year, if any at all. This was not the case for Deutsche Post DHL Group – Germany's largest logistics company was able to increase its revenue by €3.5 billion in 2020 compared to 2019. DSV Panalpina (€15.6 billion) and the US-based Expeditors (€10.1 billion) also recorded revenue growth of 26 and 19 percent, respectively, as the Statista graphic shows.

Deutsche Post's profitable run continued into 2021. The logistics group reported a record profit of €1.9 billion in the first quarter, more than three times the amount of the same period last year. This is primarily due to the consistently high order volume for Deutsche Post and DHL throughout the pandemic.

DSV Panalpina (15.6 billion euros) and US-based Expeditors (10.1 billion euros) also posted revenue growth of 26 and 19 percent, respectively, as the Statista chart shows.

For Deutsche Post, things will continue to be profitable in 2021. The logistics group reported a record profit of 1.9 billion euros in the first quarter, more than three times as much as in the same period last year. This is mainly because the order situation for Deutsche Post and DHL has remained at a consistently high level during the pandemic.
