According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), there are currently around 41 broadband connections per 100 people in Germany. This puts Germany in seventh place among all OECD countries, even ahead of the high-tech nation of Japan in terms of broadband availability. At least at first glance. In Japan, around 77 percent of all broadband connections are fiber optic. In Germany, by contrast, only 1.1 out of every 100 inhabitants have access to this technology.
