Education softens the blow of automation potential

According to a new study by the Brookings Institution, higher education leads to jobs with less potential to be replaced by automation. Overall, slightly more than half of the jobs requiring less than a bachelor's degree are at risk of automation. For jobs requiring at least a bachelor's degree, only a quarter are currently at risk of being replaced.

Looking at specific professions, about eight out of ten jobs in food preparation and the service sector have the potential to be automated, while only about 20 percent of management positions currently have the potential for automated disruption.

On the whole, a little over half of jobs that require less than a Bachelors degree are at risk of automation. For jobs where at least a Bachelors degree is required, only a quarter of jobs are currently at risk of being replaced.
