Germany still has some way to go on the path to a digital economy and society. It assesses, among other things, the progress of countries in terms of connectivity, internet use, and the integration of digital technologies. Germany is only slightly above the EU average and achieves a relatively weak score in the digitalization of businesses.

Germany's mediocre result is also due to its poor performance in the "Public Services" dimension. This dimension measures the progress of countries in e-government and e-health, and Germany ranks near the bottom in this area. Germany also achieves mediocre results in the other dimensions (broadband internet expansion, internet usage, and the degree of digitalization in the economy).
