Can digital technology make the world better?

38 percent of German participants in the 2018 Digital Society Index believe that digitalization will contribute to solving the world's most pressing challenges (e.g., poverty, health problems, environmental destruction). This suggests that the technological optimism of German citizens is relatively low compared to other countries, as the graphic illustrates. The situation is quite different in China: 71 percent of respondents there believe that digital technology can make the world a better place.
