Future of purchasing: How artificial intelligence makes decisions simplified

Artificial intelligence (AI) catapults European purchasing into a new era: For the first time, platforms such as ACCIO from Alibaba are also giving small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) access to billions of international product and supplier data, which have so far only been accessible to corporations with their own analyst teams. Anyone who correctly embeds Accio in existing ERP and governance structures can shorten the time-consuming, early part of the procurement process- from finding ideas to the shortlist of qualified providers- for days or weeks and at the same time make more sound decisions. However, it is crucial to think about the strict EU requirements for data protection and trustworthy AI right from the start.

The European market in change

The procurement area is under massive transformation pressure. Geopolitical tensions, volatile raw material prices and ambitious ESG goals force shopping managers to make their supply chains more robust and more transparent. Seven out of ten European CPOs therefore plan to significantly expand their AI budget by 2025 to advance data-based automation. At the same time, the new EU-AI act has been classified as high-risk since August 2024 systems that evaluate suppliers or forecast sustainability effects, and requires complete transparency from the data record to the decision.

AI in purchasing: The key to global competitiveness
