18,4 Prozent aller Arbeitsplätze in Deutschland sind laut OECD Employment Outlook 2019 von Automatisierung bedroht. Damit sind Jobs gemeint, bei denen 70 Prozent der Aufgaben auch von Maschinen verrichtet werden könnten. In anderen Ländern stehen die Chancen, nicht der Automatisierung zum Opfer zu fallen, deutlich besser. In den USA sind es beispielweise etwas mehr als zehn Prozent, in Norwegen sogar weniger als sechs Prozent. Wie hoch der Anteil der durch den technologischen Fortschritt bedrohten Arbeitsplätze ist hängt unter Anderem von der jeweiligen Wirtschaftsstruktur ab. In Deutschland sind noch relativ viele Menschen in klassischen Industrien, wie beispielsweise dem Automobilbau, beschäftigt. Diese Art von Arbeit ist leichter durch Roboter zu ersetzen als Jobs im Dienstleistungsbereich, bei denen direkter Interaktion mit anderen Menschen unabdingbar ist.

In other countries, the chances of not falling victim to automation are much better. In the USA, for example, the figure is just over ten percent, in Norway even less than six percent. How high the proportion of jobs threatened by technological progress depends, among other things, on the respective economic structure. In Germany, a relatively large number of people are still employed in traditional industries such as automotive engineering. This type of work is easier to replace by robots than jobs in the service sector, where direct interaction with other people is indispensable.
