The goals for wind power in Germany are clearly defined: by 2030, 115 gigawatts are to be installed on land and 30 gigawatts at sea. However, these goals are currently far from being realized as the expansion of wind turbines in the country is stagnating. By October 2023, only a net increase of around 2.5 gigawatts had been achieved, of which 2.3 gigawatts were on land and just 0.2 gigawatts at sea. While this may represent an increase of 0.1 gigawatts compared to last year, Germany still has a long way to go to achieve its goals.

What is particularly worrying is the fact that onshore expansion is far from sufficient to achieve the set goal. The average daily output from wind power expansion is currently only 8.4 megawatts. However, in order to achieve the target of 115 gigawatts by 2030, output would have to be increased to an average of 19.7 megawatts per day. This requires significant effort and investment in wind energy.

The situation is not much better in the area of offshore wind turbines either. Although Germany has great potential in the North and Baltic Seas, only limited progress has been made so far.
