According to the data analysis, content creators on YouTube earned nearly $4 billion in 2017, up 20 percent from the previous year. While content creators earned the most from YouTube overall, Instagram saw the largest increase in profits. The total value earned by content creators on Instagram grew 50 percent year-over-year. WordPress was the only platform where overall revenue for content creators shrank compared to the previous year.
While the study analyzes the number of creators and income generated, the study only focuses on 9 platforms. The research focuses on independent creatives, excluding major artists and celebrities who make big money through their social media presences and brand sponsorships.
