According to a current IDC estimate, manufacturers will sell 122.6 million devices from the wearables category this year. But the only really successful products are smartwatches (72.4 million) and other bracelets (44.2 million) - these are mostly fitness trackers. In other areas, the idea of making the things we wear on our bodies smart has not yet caught on, as the graphic shows. If the analysts have their way, the future of wearables will continue to depend primarily on the wrist. Of the sales forecast for 2022, only twelve percent are expected to account for other products such as clothing or headphones.
