In contrast, the operators of smart stores claim that opening on Sundays is essential for their economic livelihood.
The regulations regarding Sunday openings vary depending on the German federal state. While Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate allow this, Bavarian operators require permission from the municipality, and small shops are restricted by the holiday law and are not allowed to open on Sundays. The items are automatically saved in a shopping list and the total price updates in real time. Once the customer has finished shopping, they pay the total amount directly via the app or scanner and leave the store without having to wait in line at the checkout.
