“Harry, pull the car over” – that was a much-quoted sentence from the 1970s television series Derrick. As cars become increasingly smarter, the possibility of the car driving forward on its own via voice command is becoming increasingly within reach.
Individual functions in the car can already be controlled using your voice - for example navigation and dialing a call. According to a recent survey by the research institute YouGov, 13 percent of Germans have already used this function, as the following graphic shows. The use of voice control on smartphones is more widespread: 36 percent of those surveyed use applications such as Siri at least occasionally.
Overall, the topic of voice control is still a niche in Germany. More than half of those surveyed never use them.
