The word of the year 2018 is "hot time". The Society for German Language (GFDS) announced two days ago. The word not only focuses on an extreme summer that felt felt from April to November, but also indicates “one of the most serious global phenomena of the early 21st century”, ie climate change, according to the GfDS. In addition, it is linguistically an interesting word formation. In second place is the "Funkoch Republic", the third awarded the jury to the "anchor centers". "We are more" landed in fourth place.
Since 1977, the GfdS has regularly chosen words and phrases that have particularly determined the political, economic and social life of a year. According to the GfdS, it is not necessarily the frequency of use that determines the selection, but rather the significance and popularity. In 2017, the word of the year was “Jamaica-Out,” as the graphic shows.
