🔌🌞 Environmentally friendly train station solar parking space Energy meets mobility: Merklingen's solar carport 🚉🅿️ 🚘☀️
🏗️🤝 Collaboration brings innovation
Within six months, a pioneering project has taken shape at Merklingen train station: a solar carport that is not only innovative but also sustainable in its function. Thanks to the committed collaboration of several companies, this pioneering project was realized in a relatively short time. It combines the concept of renewable energy production with the need to provide charging facilities for electric vehicles and this with the convenience of covered parking spaces.
🌱⚡ Sustainable energy and e-mobility
The solar carport is an impressive system and marks an important milestone in the area of e-mobility for the region. It not only provides protection for the vehicles parked there, but also makes an important contribution to environmental protection thanks to its solar technology. The solar modules mounted on the roof are expected to produce around 990,000 kWh of electricity per year - an amount of energy that supplies the transport infrastructure at Merklingen train station in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
🔨🛠️ Professional implementation
Geislinger Albwerk was responsible for the charging infrastructure and took care of setting up and connecting a total of 260 charging points. These were cleverly and efficiently installed between July and September 2023. The complex cable work and the precise installation of the charging stations, which were in the hands of the experienced electrical engineering project manager, Thomas Deppert, were implemented in an exemplary manner and on time. This was done using a well-rehearsed team of specialist fitters who were active on the construction site every day and thus contributed to rapid progress. The construction of the carport was carried out by the company Rudolf Hörmann GmbH & Co. KG from Buchloe, which specializes in such buildings. They understood not only how to build a purely functional building, but also how to include aesthetic aspects in order to enrich the cityscape.
📞🔧 Customer service and maintenance
Even after completion, the Albwerk will remain in the game: As a charge point operator (CPO), they will not only be responsible for billing the charging processes, but also provide a around-the-clock service hotline for users. This is a crucial service aspect because the reliability and accessibility of the charging points are essential to promote acceptance and the switch to e-mobility among citizens.
🚚💼 Delivery and installation
Mennekes, a global company in the electrical industry, was able to deliver the required number of charging stations on time. The wall boxes were mounted on specially designed loading pedestals from Fränkische Rohrwerke Gebr. Kirchner GmbH & Co. KG, which ensured proper and safe attachment.
🚉🚀 Vision becomes reality
This infrastructure was created for a reason. It is the result of a long-term vision of the Swabian Alb Region Association, which has been working since 2016 to optimize the connection to the new Stuttgart-Ulm railway line and to make Merklingen train station more attractive. With the commissioning of the new railway line in December 2022, this vision finally became reality.
🌐🔋 Promoting local infrastructure
The project combines numerous aspects: it supports the spread of electric vehicles, promotes the use of renewable energies and improves local infrastructure. At the same time, it is a sign of innovation and a symbol of how modern technologies can be used sensibly to shape a sustainable future.
🏢🌿 Investment in the future
The solar carport in Merklingen is more than just a row of parking spaces. It is a sustainable investment in the future, a showcase project that shows how local climate protection efforts can be put into practice. With its large number of charging points and the considerable electricity production from the solar modules, it offers a solid basis for the growing number of electric cars and contributes to the mobility transition being concretely manifested in people's everyday lives.
