Enormous solar carport potential for solar or photovoltaic roofing of sealed areas

Carports and prefabricated garages have enormous photovoltaic potential
Carports and prefabricated garages offer enormous power generation and dual-use potential for sealed areas. 160,000 wooden carports in Germany in 2019 alone and a predicted 14,180 carports such as prefabricated garages in Austria for 2023 represent considerable and unfortunately unused potential for photovoltaics.
Carports and prefabricated garages offer enormous potential for generating electricity and dual use of sealed areas. Despite the high number of carports and prefabricated garages sold in Germany and Austria, the potential for photovoltaics is still largely unused. In 2019 alone, 160,000 wooden carports were sold in Germany and a forecast number of 14,180 carports and prefabricated garages is expected for Austria in 2023. By installing solar systems on these roofs, not only can the buildings themselves be supplied with electricity, but excess energy can also be fed into the public power grid. This can not only lead to cost savings, but also help reduce the carbon footprint and promote the expansion of renewable energy.

When looking at the numbers of installed carports and prefabricated garages, there is enormous potential for expansion with photovoltaic systems. The comparatively low additional costs for the solar system equipment can help pay off the investment in carports and prefabricated garages, which was not the case or planned in the past. However, many people are not yet aware of this fact and it needs to be emphasized again and again. With a solar system on the roof of a carport or a prefabricated garage, you can not only save money, but also make a contribution to environmental protection. Xpert.Solar already offers appropriate offers in its plans (see solar carport planner ) that are tailored to the individual needs and requirements of customers. For example, the size of the system can be adjusted to the size of the garage or carport. There are now various options for storing electricity to ensure maximum use of the energy produced.
Sales of prefabricated garages and carports in Austria 2021 to 2023 (excluding photovoltaics)
A downward trend in the prefabricated garage market was expected in 2022. According to current forecasts, the number of prefabricated garages sold is expected to fall by -2.3 percent compared to the previous year to a total of 2,500. The reasons for this decline are varied and include, among other things, the general economic situation, higher material and transport costs and a changed demand structure.
Interestingly, however, there is an increase in sales of single garages, while sales of double and terraced garages are decreasing. This could indicate that more and more people are opting for individual garage solutions tailored to their needs.
In order to survive successfully in the market, garage manufacturers must respond to these changes and adapt their products and services to the needs of customers. Aspects such as sustainability and energy efficiency should also be taken into account in order to meet the increasing demands on environmentally conscious construction.

“In 2022, the sales markets for prefabricated garages and carports will develop in opposite directions. While a prefabricated garage manufacturer records impressive sales figures and thus pushes almost all competitors out of the market, carport providers are struggling with growing competition. Several brand manufacturers are pushing no-names out of the market and thus securing a larger market share. Despite these developments, overall sales of prefabricated garages and carports are expected to decline in 2022. In the case of prefabricated garages in particular, a decline of -2.3 percent compared to the previous year is expected to 2,500 units. However, there has been an increase in sales of single garages, while sales of double and terraced garages are declining.”
Sales development of carports in Germany (excluding photovoltaics)
Carports have been very popular in Germany for years as an alternative to garages. A possible explanation for this lies in the fact that carports are generally cheaper than garages and can also be built more quickly. In addition, carports offer the advantage that they ensure good ventilation of the parked car and can therefore reduce the formation of moisture.
The demand for carports in Germany has risen continuously in recent years. According to statistics from the Association of the German Wood Materials Industry (VHI), around 160,000 carports were sold in Germany in 2019. This corresponded to an increase of around 3% compared to the previous year. More recent figures could not be determined.
It is likely that this trend will continue in the future, as carports represent an attractive and practical alternative to garages. However, economic factors and external influences can influence development and possibly lead to fluctuations.
Why a carport made of aluminum is better than wood or steel
There are several reasons why an aluminum carport might be preferred compared to one made of wood or steel:
longevity
Aluminum is a durable and corrosion-resistant material option that, unlike wood or steel, will not rot, rust or deteriorate.
Low maintenance effort
An aluminum carport requires little maintenance compared to a wood or steel carport because aluminum does not need to be painted or sealed.
Lightweight construction
Aluminum is a lightweight material, meaning it is easier to transport and assemble than wood or steel.
flexibility
Aluminum is a very flexible material and can therefore be easily formed into different shapes and designs. This allows carports to be made in different sizes and shapes.
environmental friendliness
Aluminum is a recyclable material, meaning it can be reused after the carport's lifespan has ended. In contrast, wood can be more difficult to recycle and steel can rust and lose its structural integrity if not properly maintained.
aesthetics
Aluminum carports offer a modern and attractive look that fits well with modern homes and buildings. There is also a wide range of colors and finishes to choose from to ensure the carport fits in well with the rest of the building.
