Charging stations and solar carports together make sense: the circle closes
If you look at the vehicle market in terms of new registrations, a change took place in the middle of last year. New registrations for gasoline and diesel vehicles are declining and electric cars are slowly becoming popular. More hybrid cars than diesel cars are now being registered. Is this a trend reversal?
It is interesting that new plug-in hybrid cars in Germany in 2020 were registered with a commercial owner at an above-average rate of 72.2 percent. For all new cars, the commercial share was 62.8 percent, a good ten percentage points lower. The federal government estimated that as of October 1, 2020, around 80 percent of plug-in hybrid cars with commercial owners were used as company cars, some of them privately used. Most of the new registrations of plug-in hybrid cars in Germany in 2020 were the Volkswagen Passat model. With the Mitsubishi Outlander, only one foreign manufacturer is represented in the list of the ten most registered models of 2020.
The climate footprint of plug-in hybrid vehicles depends largely on how often it is driven electrically. A white paper from the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research and the International Council on Clean Transportation shows that plug-in hybrids primarily use the combustion engine during actual driving. In Germany, an average of 43 percent of the routes for private vehicles are driven electrically, while for company cars it is 18 percent of the routes. The infrequent use of the charging infrastructure is to blame for this discrepancy. One recommendation for action in the paper is better incentives for more frequent charging and better funding for the installation of private charging stations.

With regard to the upcoming solar obligation in Baden-Württemberg from January 1, 2022, where all non-public parking spaces larger than 75 parking spaces must set up a solar carport system, which primarily affects trade, commerce and industry The circle would close: The incentive for more frequent charging would be there and also the step towards more commercial hybrid plug-in and new electric car registrations.
Many questions about solar carports need to be clarified. Many are confronted with this topic for the first time and good advice is expensive. Xpert.Solar offers customer advice on a B2B basis for companies as well as interested solar installers. use the solar installer search function on our Xpert.Solar Over 13,000 solar technicians from the German-speaking countries of Germany, Austria and Switzerland are listed here.
Solar carports, especially for commercial and industrial purposes, have to meet different requirements than for private installations. As a rule, private solar carports or private carports in general do not have collision protection. Private carports are usually built primarily on a wooden structure. The rule applies: My carport would rather break down in a collision than my car. With a large solar carport system, the opposite applies. It's about the safety of a large number of parking spaces, which cannot be maintained and maintained in the same way as a single private carport. A wooden structure requires regular care. This can be a problem with large solar carport systems.

Industrial flat roof solar systems and solar parks or outdoor photovoltaic systems are another alternative
If you are thinking of investing in a solar carport , a solar system on the company roof is also recommended. Exploiting any energy potential for an emission-free and autonomous power supply is also a competitive advantage and securing market shares.

Charging infrastructure and charging stations
Should the energy generated be fed into the grid or parked in energy or electricity storage? What are the load profiles, the technical connection conditions, number of charging stations, vehicle downtime and ultimately the specified total PV output? Will the charges be recorded with the company if the employee charges their company car from home? These are questions that we will have to deal with in the future. It is different from what we are used to today.

New registrations of electric cars in Germany until 2021
Record number of new registrations of electric cars in Germany - in 2020, around 194,200 purely electric cars were registered, more than ever before. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a tripling of the number of admissions. The year 2021 also started with significant growth compared to the same period last year.
New registrations of battery electric cars (BEV)
The statistics show new registrations of purely battery-powered electric cars. The term electromobility often includes different types of electric or partially electric drives. Battery electric vehicles are powered exclusively by an electric motor, which draws the required electrical energy from a traction battery. Plug-in hybrid vehicles, which have an internal combustion engine in addition to an electric motor and only partially run purely electrically, are usually also included under the term electromobility.
Charging infrastructure is a basic requirement for the mobility transition
The number of publicly accessible charging stations is a criterion when deciding for or against an electric car. In 2020 alone, a total of over 3,000 new charging points were added, and drivers had over 16,800 charging stations available to them in December. The federal state with the most charging stations in 2020 was Bavaria.

New car registrations with hybrid drive in Germany until 2021
The statistics show the number of new registrations of hybrid vehicles in Germany from 2010 to 2021. According to the UN definition, a hybrid vehicle is a vehicle in which there are at least two energy converters and two energy storage systems installed in the vehicle to power the vehicle. Energy converters are, for example, electric, gasoline and diesel engines, energy storage devices are, for example, accumulators or fuel tanks. In 2020, around 527,900 cars with hybrid drive were registered, including around 200,500 with a plug-in hybrid drive.

New car registrations with plug-in hybrid drive in Germany until 2021
The statistics show the number of new registrations of plug-in hybrid vehicles in Germany from 2013 to 2021. In 2020, around 200,500 cars with plug-in hybrid drives were registered.
The source states: “There is a statistical inaccuracy due to the older type approvals before 2012, in which a plug-in vehicle was still recorded as a hybrid. This means that not all newly registered plug-in vehicles are shown here.” Some of the older values were taken from previous year's publications.
A plug-in hybrid is a motor vehicle with a hybrid drive whose battery can be charged both via the combustion engine and with a plug in the power grid. A plug-in hybrid vehicle usually has a larger battery than a pure hybrid (full hybrid) and is therefore closer to an electric car than the latter. A frequently used abbreviation is PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle).
The share of plug-in hybrid cars in all new car registrations in Germany has risen sharply in recent years: While in 2015 it was 0.3 percent, which corresponded to 11,101 vehicles, the share of plug-in vehicles was around 200,000 -in-hybrid new cars in 2020 already 6.9 percent.

Proportion of new registrations of passenger cars with gasoline or diesel engines in Germany from January 2016 to May 2021: In May 2021, around 37.7 percent of newly registered passenger cars were equipped with a gasoline engine. This corresponds to a total of around 86,900 vehicles and an increase of 1.1 percent compared to the same month last year.
New registration: First-time registration and registration of a brand-new vehicle with a license plate in Germany. Vehicles that have already been registered at home or abroad are not included. The values for the previous months were taken from the corresponding previous publications.

Number of new registrations of passenger cars in Germany by fuel type
The statistics show the number of new registrations of passenger cars in Germany from May 2019 to May 2021 by fuel type. 516 of the newly registered cars in Germany in May 2021 were powered by natural gas. Some of the older values were taken from previous year's publications. Alternative drives are becoming increasingly popular, but cars with fuel cells as an energy source remain a niche product.
Suitable for:
Number of new registrations of passenger cars in Germany by alternative fuel type or energy source
The statistics show the number of new registrations of passenger cars in Germany from April 2019 to April 2021 by alternative fuel type or energy source. 35 of the newly registered cars in Germany in April 2021 were powered by a fuel cell. Alternative drives are becoming increasingly popular, but cars with gasoline and diesel engines continue to be in demand, although the share of these types of fuel has been falling in recent months.
