Shingles are an ancient form of roofing. This connection technology, also known as shingled or overlapping, is used in the field of solar energy. More precisely with the solar cells. Here they are not divided into cells and are placed on top of each other like roof tiles. Therefore, the shingle technology does not require busbars (main conductor tracks) and is connected with conductive silver adhesive. The function of the bus bars is taken over by the solar cells themselves.
Conductive silver adhesives are used to make electrical connections. They are used wherever the disadvantages of soft soldering are critical. In comparison to soft soldering, there are no signs of migration in conductive silver adhesives (formation of cracks/defects due to diffusion).
Shingling is an innovative wiring technology. In the event of shading, the cells that are not shaded remain active. Shingled cell connection technology increases performance through the reduced spacing between cells by allowing more cells to be accommodated than on comparable solar module sizes.
