🌿 Sustainable revolution in Wesel: Rhenus opens environmentally friendly warehouse 🌍
Advice and solutions can be found here 👈🏻
On August 11th the time had come – Rhenus Warehousing Solutions celebrated the opening of their state-of-the-art multi-user location in Wesel. But this opening was no ordinary one – it marks a significant step towards sustainability and environmental protection. The huge logistics property extends over an impressive 86,000 square meters and meets all the requirements for the coveted BREEAM Excellence certification. But that's not all: As part of the Green Gate to Europe facility, this location not only sets standards in energy efficiency, but also in environmental protection. 🌍🏢
🌞 Solar energy and geothermal energy for green logistics
The new location, which is located in the Rhine-Lippe port of Wesel at the mouth of the Lippe, impresses with an innovative combination of logistics and sustainability. One of the largest connected photovoltaic systems in Europe - with an impressive 9 megawatts of peak output - supplies the electricity required for the warehouse. The energy generated also supplies the geothermal system, which not only air-conditions the building but also contributes to an environmentally friendly energy supply. And even during the night, the site can operate independently thanks to advanced battery storage systems and draw energy from natural resources. 🌞🔋
🌍 Sustainability around the clock
This extraordinary logistics property remains in motion even at night. Thanks to extensive battery storage systems, the 86,000 square meter site is self-sufficient at night. This sustainable energy source draws its power from nature's rich treasures. A brilliant strategy that reduces the ecological footprint to a minimum. 🌌
🌱 Green, greener, facade greening!
A sustainable warehouse would not be complete without green elements. The facade of the 86,000 square meter building is partially covered in greenery - a step that is not only aesthetic but also environmentally friendly. Greenery helps absorb carbon dioxide and improve air quality. But that's not all the site is doing for a greener future. Electric charging stations for vehicles and e-bikes as well as a dedicated bus stop in front of the building promote environmentally friendly mobility for employees. Insect hotels and bird houses contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and complete the picture of a truly sustainable logistics property. 🌳🚴♂️🚍🦋
🐝 For nature and the community
Nature is invited! Insect hotels and bird houses round off the sustainable features of the location. A harmonious coexistence between people and nature that contributes to the protection of biodiversity. This unique logistics property meets all the criteria for the sought-after BREEAM Excellence certification. 🦋🏡
📦 Tailored logistics solutions and regional strengthening
Rhenus is not only setting new standards in terms of sustainability and environmental protection. The new location will offer no fewer than ten units for tailored logistics services. Four of these hall sections are specially designed for the storage of hazardous substances in accordance with the WGK3 standard. But that's not all. Rhenus actively contributes to strengthening the region by not only creating jobs, but also offering a wide variety of employment opportunities. From the commercial to the commercial sector – the positive effects on the regional economy are unmistakable. 📦💼💪
🎉 Great opening ceremony and exciting supporting program
The opening of the location was an event that was duly celebrated. From opening speeches to detailed camp tours – there was a lot to see and discover. Information stands inside the hall provided deep insights into the location's innovations and environmental initiatives. Even the little guests didn't miss out: an exciting supporting program ensured entertainment and amazement for young and old. 🎉🎈

🗒️ BREEAM Excellence certification
The BREEAM Excellence certification is an important seal of quality in the area of sustainable building and environmental protection. This certification demonstrates excellence in environmental aspects and sustainability for buildings and infrastructure projects. Let's take a closer look at what BREEAM Excellence certification is all about and why it plays a central role in the assessment of construction projects.
What is BREEAM Excellence certification?
The BREEAM Excellence certification is an award given by BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). BREEAM is one of the oldest and most respected sustainable building certification systems in the world. It evaluates construction projects based on a variety of environmental criteria, including energy efficiency, resource use, water management, indoor quality and social responsibility.
The Excellence level within the BREEAM certification system is the highest level a project can achieve. To receive BREEAM Excellence certification, the project must demonstrate exceptional performance in the stated criteria. This means that the building or infrastructure not only meets the basic requirements, but also plays a pioneering role in sustainability.
Why is BREEAM Excellence certification important?
BREEAM Excellence certification is important for several reasons:
1. Environmental protection
The certification rewards projects that are environmentally friendly and adopt sustainable practices in energy, water and resource management.
2. Market value
Buildings and projects with a BREEAM Excellence certification often have a higher market value because they have higher quality and efficiency.
3. Image and reputation
Certification shows a company or organization's commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, which can strengthen its image and reputation.
4. Cost savings
Sustainable buildings are often more energy efficient and cost-effective to operate. This can lead to significant cost savings in the long term.
5. Innovation
BREEAM Excellence certification promotes innovation in construction by encouraging projects to use new technologies and practices to achieve higher sustainability standards.
Current developments and significance
In recent years, the importance of sustainable construction and environmental protection has increased significantly. Governments, companies and society as a whole are increasingly focusing on green initiatives and sustainability. BREEAM Excellence certification is at the heart of this trend as it encourages projects to meet the highest standards of environmental sustainability.
Many major cities around the world have implemented strict building regulations that require projects to meet certain sustainability criteria in order to receive building permits. In such cases, BREEAM Excellence certification can provide a valuable competitive advantage.
