Free Britney
After the documentary “Framing Britney Spears” aired in February, the “Free Britney” public campaign has made waves in 2021. The show not only looked at the pop star's treatment by the media, but also the guardianship the singer has been under since 2008 - which means she can no longer make decisions about large parts of her life, particularly her financial affairs are strictly regulated. The guardianship was established and overseen by her father, Jamie Spears.
As the German Google searches for “Free Britney” show, the events surrounding the pop star are also being followed with keen interest here. Many German users also campaigned for justice in the Britney Spears case on social networks.
Then, in July, Britney made her first personal statement in court, outlining how the conservatorship has interfered with her life and freedoms and requesting that it be terminated. Although that request was denied, on September 7, Jamie Spears announced that he had filed a motion to terminate the conservatorship, as his attorneys explained: “As Mr. Spears has said time and time again, he wants what is best for his daughter. If Ms. Spears wants to end the conservatorship and believes she can take control of her own life, she should be given that chance." The campaign to free Britney will undoubtedly continue to gain momentum until the conservatorship is ended once and for all.
