Or: How a company prepares itself for the future by converting to the most modern production and storage system
Meienberg Feinmechanis AG , a Swiss manufacturer of mechanical components, used the upcoming modernization of its own production facilities to completely realign its production processes. In addition to largely automating the processes, it was not only possible to significantly reduce the labor-intensive set-up times, but also to extend the machine running time to the night hours.
The work was carried out in collaboration with Goodj , a manufacturer of automated production systems, and the company Chiron , which developed the production plant's new machining center. Kardex Remstar supplied the precisely tailored rack storage systems .
The aim was to increase sales and at the same time flexibility and to simplify production processes with the same or lower number of employees. Where previously settings on the production line were always done by hand and the machines had to be laboriously readjusted for each additional customer order, this is now done in a fully automated process. The implementation of a modern high-bay warehouse, a fully automatic shuttle system from Kardex Remstar, in which the required parts and tools are stored, saved additional time.
Another efficiency-increasing effect is that production no longer comes to a standstill at night. It has now been adapted to ensure that man-intensive series are produced during the day, while additional orders can be produced fully automatically at night, although this was only made possible by reducing set-up times. Nowadays they can be done with a few clicks - a huge step forward from the old system, where changes had to be made manually over hours. And should there actually be a technical problem at night, the responsible employees will be informed via SMS or email.
