🤖📚 Education offensive for more AI competence in Germany
🌟 The AI robotics company robominds is launching an extensive educational offensive to strengthen training in dealing with artificial intelligence (AI) in Germany. This initiative comes as a response to the growing shortage of skilled workers and is aimed at both universities and training companies in order to promote AI competence there. Christian Fenk, a leading expert in the field of AI robotics at robominds, emphasizes the urgency: “Companies must now deal with future technology in order not to miss the boat.”
⏰📈 The urgency of action
The shortage of skilled workers in Germany has worsened dramatically over the last ten years. Currently, 82 percent of German companies are struggling with unfilled positions in 2024. Artificial intelligence has the potential to counteract this problem. However, the successful use of AI requires a deep understanding of this technology, which must be conveyed through targeted training. Fenk sums up the problem aptly: “We don’t have a skilled worker problem, but rather a training problem.”
“Both companies and educational institutions must take action now so that Germany as a business location does not lose touch. Other countries are much more active here and have already gained a lead,” says Christian Fenk, CSO at robominds and initiator of the education offensive. It becomes even clearer: “I call on all training companies, vocational school teachers, professors and lecturers to actively engage with AI. “AI in robotics is much more than a ChatGPT account; potential investments cannot fail because the federal and state governments are already providing comprehensive funding programs.”
🏫🤖 Integrating AI and robotics into education
The need to integrate AI into STEM subjects is also underlined by leading voices from industry and research. Patrick Schwarzkopf, Managing Director of the VDMA Robotics + Automation Association, emphasizes: “People need to understand AI and be able to assess its possibilities, limits and effects.” He calls for computer science and AI to be included in the education plan from the start: “If the next generation only learns the classic natural sciences, mathematics and technology, without computer science and AI, we will lose touch.”
“The earlier enthusiasm for technology is triggered, the better. Nothing is better suited than robots to generate interest in math, physics, coding, AI, technology, etc.,” says Patrick Schwarzkopf, managing director of the VDMA Robotics + Automation Association. Prof. Dr. Ing.
Prof. Dr. Ing. Simon Dietrich, Professor of Production Engineering and Robotics at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, supports this view and adds that part-time training courses are also necessary.
“In addition to the qualifications in the undergraduate courses, it is essential that part-time further training courses are created. We need to build up the skills for dealing with AI systems in companies as quickly as possible. Even if a company does not yet decide to implement this technology itself, it will inevitably come into contact with it through engagement with customers and suppliers.”
🎓📦 The robominds Education Bundle
In order to meet these requirements, robominds has developed the Education Bundle. This offers a flexible and user-friendly way to integrate AI into the curriculum of educational institutions and in company training. The bundle includes, among other things, the integration of an AI robotics cell, a robobrain® specifically aimed at training with entry-level skills for robots, demo programs for industrial processes as well as further training materials, workshops and keynotes.
Christian Fenk explains the objective:
It doesn't matter whether you already have robotics or programming skills. We make AI robotics easy and tangible for everyone – and are there to help you with our know-how right from the start. “It doesn’t matter whether you already have robotics or programming skills. We make AI robotics easy and tangible for everyone – and are there to support you with our know-how right from the start.”
🏫🔧 Practical application of AI in education
A practical example of the successful integration of AI robotics into the educational curriculum can be found at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. The robobrain® system is used here to promote fascination and understanding of AI robotics through practical and interactive learning. Dr. Simon Dietrich is enthusiastic:
“The fascination of working with this system is great, as a lot of functionality can be implemented in the system in a short time. The participants learn in a playful way how to integrate AI-supported image processing in order to efficiently automate pick & place processes with intelligent capabilities.”
Patrick Schwarzkopf also sees the potential of the technology for the training sector:
“robominds offers intuitive technology that users can easily grasp and understand. That's exactly how I felt when I was allowed to try it out for the first time: it quickly clicked. Robots are a very good vehicle for this because you can easily associate with them – arm, hand, finger, eye.”
🤝🌐 Collaborations and partnerships
As part of its education offensive, robominds relies on a strong, regional partner network. NEXT.Robotics and Adolf Neuendorf, for example, are among the particularly established partners in the education segment. These partnerships give robominds' offense additional power. We will initially work together to equip robot cells that are already established in the educational environment with robobrain® AI. In addition, joint webinars and workshops are organized with the IHK to make AI robotics accessible to everyone.
🔑🚀 Education as the key to the future
Given the rapid technological developments, it is essential that Germany actively develops in the areas of artificial intelligence and robotics. The key to this lies in comprehensive and practice-oriented training, which helps to overcome the current shortage of skilled workers and make Germany future-proof as a business location.
The future belongs to those who are willing to invest in it; Education in AI is not only an investment in the individual, but also in the economic strength and innovative strength of the country. Both companies and educational institutions are therefore equally required to recognize and use the opportunities offered by AI at an early stage. With initiatives like the robominds education offensive, Germany could actually keep up and create the conditions for a technologically advanced future.
