🚀💡 New contact point for founders, start-ups and SMEs: development of trustworthy AI from Germany
📊 If you focus on the technological developments of the present and future, it becomes clear how crucial artificial intelligence (AI) is for the innovative strength and competitiveness of companies. In this context, an important event took place in Kaiserslautern last Friday: the opening of a new Center for Artificial Intelligence at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). Under the direction of Federal Digital Minister Dr. Volker Wissing and the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt was ceremoniously inaugurated.
🌟 Initiative "Mission Ki" and the importance of the new center
This center is an important part of the "Mission KI" initiative and the first of two planned centers that are funded by the Federal Government. The aim is to promote the use of trustworthy AI. Dr. In his speech, Volker Wissing emphasized the importance of the new center:
"With the AI Center in Kaiserslautern, we create a bridge between research and practical application. Innovative ideas can arise here and AI applications can be subjected to a quality check. Companies receive concrete help in order to assess risks of AI early-also with regard to EU specifications. This also wants to promote the development of trustworthy AI 'Made-in-Germany" and strengthen German companies. Rhineland-Palatinate is the ideal location with its dynamic KI and Biotech scene. This center will not only drive innovations, but also help us to remain leading in Germany in this future technology. ”
📍🏢 Strategic importance of the Kaiserslautern location
Minister of State Daniela Schmitt emphasized the strategic importance of the location in her contribution:
"With the DFKI, Kaiserslautern is the central location for artificial intelligence in Germany. It is obvious and I am particularly pleased that Rhineland-Palatinate is now being native to two new AI centers financed by the federal government. Our medium-sized companies in the country will particularly benefit from the knowledge transfer and the development of corresponding applications."
The Minister of State emphasized that the corporate stone for a flourishing AI ecosystem in Rhineland-Palatinate was laid by the close networking of business and science.
🔬🤝 Cooperation between Acatech and DFKI
The new center is operated together by Acatech and the DFKI. A special focus is on the development of test methods for AI applications to strengthen trust in this technology. In addition to advice and future test support, workshops for competence development, knowledge transfer and strengthening the regional AI community are offered. Prof. Dr. Andreas Dengel, managing director of the DFKI in Kaiserslautern, explained:
"The settlement of the innovation and quality center on the DFKI enables us to use existing structures and to create valuable synergies about the broad competence of our research areas and the far-reaching networks in the field of trustworthy AI. As research partners of companies of various industries, we know about the special challenges with regard to safety, reliability and ethical substitutes, which with the development of marketable AI treatments Going with the innovation and quality center.
⚕️🩺 focus on the health sector
One focus of the new center will initially be on the use of AI in the health sector. This decision is not accidental, but reflects the strong presence of companies and research institutions from medicine, pharmaceutical and biotechnology in the region. The DFKI plans to develop tools to evaluate the quality of medical AI systems and to improve them. These should start in the early development process and take into account the specific requirements of health or high-risk applications. Application cases such as the detection of skin cancer or safe intubation serve as concrete examples to test and validate the methods developed. In addition, quality and test standards developed by “Mission KI” are to be used.
🏭🌐 cross -sector innovation funding
Despite the focus on medicine, the center is open to innovators from all industries. This should ensure that a wide range of AI applications can be developed and promoted. The establishment of the AI center in Kaiserslautern is only part of the broader initiative "Mission KI", which is financed with a total budget of 32 million euros by the Federal Ministry. Another center is to be built in Berlin by the end of the year to ensure nationwide coverage and support to promote AI development.
🎯🔍 Goals of the "Mission Ki"
Manfred Rauhmeier, Managing Director of Acatech, made it clear:
"With the Mission AI, we pursue a clear goal: to make the examination of AI applications for companies as practical as possible and at the same time ensure security and transparency. We create the prerequisites to fully exploit the immense potential of AI for our economy and society. Germany should not only take on a pioneering role in Ki research, but also in practical use."
🏢💼 Extensive knowledge transfer and regional business development
The center in Kaiserslautern should therefore not only be a place of ideas and innovations, but also offer practical help for companies that face the challenges of AI development. The close cooperation with research institutions, industrial partners and the regional economy enables an extensive knowledge transfer. This could help in the long term that Germany is recognized not only as a research location, but also as a market leader in the application of artificial intelligence.
⛲🌍 potential and effects beyond regional borders
The new center therefore has the potential to affect its regional borders far beyond its regional borders. It will be a competence center that could serve as a model for other regions and international partners. With the establishment of this center, Germany sets a clear sign of promoting innovation, quality and trustworthiness in artificial intelligence.
