These days, the German games trade fair Gamescom is opening its doors again in Cologne. This year there will be over 1000 exhibitors represented for the first time. That's hardly surprising, because Germans are crazy about computer games: As the infographic from Statista based on the game association shows, sales of computer games have risen continuously in recent years. The data includes games for PC, console and mobile devices, including handhelds, tablets and smartphones. Also included are revenue from subscriptions, premium accounts and the sale of additional virtual content (so-called in-app purchases). The latter in particular are a major growth driver in the industry. The number of Germans who play computer and video games has remained stable at over 34 million people since 2014.
