The cross-channel is currently the most commonly used variant. In the trend diagram below, the steady decline of the yellow curve from cross-channel can be clearly seen.
In contrast, you can see the green curve of Omni-Channel rising accordingly.
Unified Commerce is still in the starting blocks, but it is the logical consequence of the rapid development of e-commerce that something drastic will happen here in the next few years.
The trend development of the last 5 years: The omni-channel area is constantly growing
It's no wonder that unified commerce is most widespread, especially in the USA. Germany is in 7th position, after Hong Kong and Singapore. So from the e-commerce growth region par excellence, where Alibaba - the world's largest retailer that does not have its own warehouse - dominates.
In Canada, omni-channel has already become the front runner. Unified Commerce, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be attracting much interest at the moment. While the multi-channel sector still dominates in the USA, interest in unified commerce is increasing here. Germany, on the other hand, has reached almost 50% in the multi-channel area. The single channel seems to soon be history.
