Germany still has a ways to go on the path to a digital economy and society. This is shown by the graphic based on the Digital Economy and Society Index (“DESI”) , which has been published annually by the EU Commission since 2014. Among other things, it assesses the status of countries in terms of connectivity, internet use and integration of digital technologies. Germany is only slightly above the EU average and only achieves a relatively weak rating in the digitalization of companies.
Germany's mediocre result is also due to its poor performance in the “Public Services” dimension. The progress of the countries in the area of e-government and e-health is measured. In this area, Germany is at the bottom of the rankings. In the other dimensions (expansion of broadband internet, internet usage and the degree of digitization of the economy), Germany achieved mediocre results.
