The global construction industry reached $12 trillion in annual spending before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and is expected to grow by three percent. Given the immense economic and social shock caused by COVID-19, this market may experience a temporary slowdown. The market size in this industry is expected to more than double in just two decades, reaching over $19 trillion by 2035. Future projects in the construction industry include construction projects in the real estate sector - both residential and commercial - but also in the area of infrastructure and industrial structures that will change the way people live. Continuous growth is also forecast for the global construction machinery market. In just five years, the market size will increase by 25 percent.
For the period between 2014 and 2020, a total of 556 projects were submitted to the European Commission that received funding of 50 million euros or more, with Poland being the country with the highest number of applications. The German construction machinery industry is a sub-area of mechanical engineering and includes mining, construction and building materials machines. They are used both in the construction industry and in the finishing industry. The spectrum of construction machinery ranges from excavators and transport equipment to stationary devices, such as tower cranes or construction hoists.
