UK leads European ad revenue for social media

The UK saw the highest revenue from social media ads in 2018, according to Digital Market Outlook analysis and forecast. The UK brought in around $2.8 billion in revenue solely from social media advertising, excluding revenue from membership fees or premium fees.
The business model of social media networks is largely based on revenue from ad generation. Among other scandals unrelated to advertising or marketing, social media sites like Facebook are under increasing scrutiny over who they sell advertising to and how they share user data with advertisers.
Great Britain managed to bring in more than double the revenue of Germany, the second-place finisher. Germany and France's combined social media ad revenue does not achieve the same advertising impact as the UK. Overall, mobile social media advertising is currently outperforming desktop advertising and is expected to remain the dominant medium for advertisers.
