☀️ The year 2023: A milestone for solar energy in Berlin 🌱
The year 2023 represents a significant milestone in the history of solar energy use in Berlin. With the installation of 10,308 new solar systems, which were counted by December 15th, Berlin has not only set a new record, but at the same time a pioneering sign of its use renewable energies. The capacity of 72.7 megawatts/peak fed into the power grid exceeds all previous values and more than doubles compared to the previous year.

To put these numbers into perspective: The previous years 2020 to 2022 recorded an increase of 1,528, 1,883 and 3,704 systems with the associated capacities of 18.8 megawatts/peak, 26 megawatts/peak and 32.9 megawatts/peak. This development shows a clear trend – the energy transition in Berlin is gaining momentum.
🔋 Balcony solar: balcony power plants and subsidies
A decisive impetus for this upswing came particularly from the so-called balcony power plants. Supported by the SolarPLUS program of the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Enterprises, which was funded with a grant of 500 euros per system from February 2023, the funding campaign achieved an impressive response. By December 15 of that year, 6,737 funding applications had been received, of which 4,263 were approved. Only 350 applications were rejected, mainly because the systems were purchased before the application was submitted and therefore did not meet the eligibility criteria.
