Hast du schon mal von TikTok gehört? Nun, ich hatte es auch nicht und doch hat die mobile App Doyin in China im vergangenen Jahr in vielen Teilen der Welt die App-Charts angeführt.

Nach der Fusion mit musical.ly, einer weiteren App, die bei Teenagern beliebt ist, aber für Uneingeweihte unklar ist, ermöglicht TikTok im August 2018 den Benutzern, 15-Sekunden-Videos von sich selbst zu erstellen, Effekte hinzuzufügen und diese mit ihren Freunden zu teilen.
Im Juli 2018 erreichte TikTok laut ByteDance, dem chinesischen Unternehmen dahinter, 500 Millionen weltweit aktive Nutzer und schlug damit andere soziale Plattformen wie Snapchat mit großem Abstand, ohne die gleiche Aufmerksamkeit zu erregen. Wie die folgende Grafik zeigt, die auf Daten unserer Partner Priori Data basiert, war TikTok im vergangenen Jahr besonders in Indien beliebt, wo die App fast 120 Millionen Mal heruntergeladen wurde. Es hat jedoch auch in anderen Ländern Dutzende von Millionen Downloads ausgelöst, was darauf hindeutet, dass es sich um ein globales Phänomen handelt, das es wert ist, beachtet zu werden.

In July 2018, TikTok reached 500 million global active users according to ByteDance, the Chinese company behind it, beating other social platforms such as Snapchat by a wide margin without getting the same amount of attention. As the following chart, based on data from our partners Priori Data, shows, TikTok was particularly popular in India last year, where the app was downloaded nearly 120 million times. It racked up tens of millions of downloads in other countries as well, however, indicating that it is a global phenomenon worth taking note of.

Laut geleakten Dokumenten aus dem November 2018 wird sie hierzulande von etwas mehr als vier Millionen Menschen genutzt, wie netzfeuilleton.de berichtet. Ähnlich populär ist TikTok auf dem europäischen Kontinent nur noch in Frankreich. Das bestätigen auch Zahlen unseres Datenpartners Priori Data. Das Gros der Nutzer soll allerdings in Asien leben. In Indien jedenfalls scheint die App ein großer Hit zu sein, wie unsere Infografik verdeutlicht.
