3,6 Prozent aller stationären Breitbandanschlüsse in Deutschland waren laut Daten der OECD im Juni 2019 mit einem Glasfaserkabel verbunden – das sind gerade einmal 2,3 Prozentpunkte mehr als im Juni 2015. Fast nirgendwo in den Industriestaaten ist der Glasfaseranteil derartig niedrig. Absolute Weltspitze ist in dieser Hinsicht Südkorea mit einem Glasfaseranteil von rund 82 Prozent. In Europa sind die Schweden mit etwa 69 Prozent führend. Schlechter als hierzulande ist die Glasfaser-Infrastruktur nur in einer Handvoll OECD-Ländern wie etwa Österreich oder dem Vereinigten Königreich.
According to OECD data, 3.6 percent of all stationary broadband connections in Germany were connected with a fiber optic cable in June 2019 – just 2.3 percentage points more than in June 2015. Almost nowhere else in the industrialized countries is the share of fiber optic cable so low. The absolute world leader in this respect is South Korea with a fiber optic share of around 82 percent. In Europe, Sweden leads the way with around 69 percent. The fibre-optic infrastructure is worse than in this country only in a handful of OECD countries such as Austria or the United Kingdom.
Kaum Glasfaser in Deutschland im Vergleich zu Europa
Auf 100 Menschen in Deutschland kommen derzeit laut Organisation für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (OECD) rund 41 Breitbandanschlüsse. Damit belegt die Bundesrepublik den siebten Platz im Ranking aller OECD-Staaten und liegt damit in Punkto Breitbandverfügbarkeit sogar vor der Hochtechnologie-Nation Japan. Zumindest auf den ersten Blick. In Japan sind nämlich rund 78 Prozent aller Breitbandanschlüsse an Glasfaserkabel angeschlossen. Hierzulande kommen dagegen von 100 Einwohnern nur 1,3 in den Genuss dieser Technologie.
Hardly any glass fibre in Germany compared to Europe
According to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), there are currently around 41 broadband connections for every 100 people in Germany. This puts the Federal Republic in seventh place in the ranking of all OECD countries and even puts it ahead of the high-tech nation Japan in terms of broadband availability. At least at first glance. After all, around 78 percent of all broadband connections in Japan are connected to fiber optic cable. In contrast, only 1.3 out of 100 inhabitants in this country benefit from this technology.
