Building-integrated photovoltaics with Solarwatt
For over two years, Solarwatt has offered the Vision 60M construct, a glass-glass solar module with general building authority approval (abZ), which can be used for solar parking lot canopies and facades without additional safety measures. Now, the Dresden-based photovoltaic provider is launching a successor model, also with abZ approval from the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). The new half-cell module, Panel vision GM 3.0 construct, will be produced at Solarwatt's F8 production facility in Dresden starting in March and has a power output of up to 370 Wp. From the end of this year, the module will also feature an additional central support strut on the underside. This increases stability and improves the appearance by concealing cables and the junction box. As a result, the module not only improves aesthetics but can also withstand higher snow loads than its predecessor.
Solarwatt's new glass-glass solar module utilizes bifacial cells that convert both sunlight on the top and light from the underside of the modules into clean solar power: "The bifacial half-cell modules are particularly advantageous when used in freestanding roof structures such as carports or parking lot canopies, where light enters from both sides. The double-sided photoactive cells enable additional energy yields of up to 10 percent in a carport," explains Norbert Betzl, Director of
Product Management Solar Modules at Solarwatt.
Solarwatt will launch the first framed standard module with abZ approval in 2020
With the Vision 60M construct, Solarwatt launched Germany's first framed standard module with general building authority approval in 2020. These solar modules can be used for overhead and facade installations without individual assessment, as they meet all safety requirements. And customer demand is high: Since the market launch of the durable glass-glass solar module, the Dresden-based company has already covered parking areas with a total size of over 140,000 square meters, equivalent to approximately 20 football fields.
Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) allows for the use of additional surfaces, such as facades, for generating solar power. Furthermore, it enables the creation of semi-transparent roof structures for terraces, carports, or large parking areas, generating clean electricity and protecting the area below from wind and weather. "In a growing number of German states, it is becoming mandatory for parking areas to be covered with solar modules. Our modules are perfectly designed for this application. They can be installed without additional support structures, allowing for highly aesthetic designs," emphasizes Norbert Betzl.

Solarwatt relaunches glass-glass module with general building authority approval
with general building authority approval Save costs
The Panel vision construct and Panel vision sky modules have a general building authority approval (abZ) ☑️ and are approved as construction equipment for overhead applications. This means that a separate approval for the respective construction project is not required. Additional securing is also unnecessary.

In 2014, Solarwatt launched the first photovoltaic module with general building approval (abZ). It was a veranda and carport module with 36 cells.
In 2020, Solarwatt introduced the successor model Vision 60M with a general building approval (abZ) of 305 to 320 watts. This glass-glass module is considered a regulated building product throughout Germany and can be used without restriction in both private and public sectors. Therefore, a separate building permit is not required.
