Building-integrated photovoltaics with solar watts
For more than two years now, Solarwatt has been offering the Vision 60M construct, a glass-glass solar module with general building authority approval (abZ), which can also be used for solar parking lot roofs and facades without additional protection. The Dresden-based photovoltaic provider is now bringing a successor model onto the market, which also has an abZ from the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). The new half-cell module Panel vision GM 3.0 construct will be produced in the Solarwatt F8 production facility in Dresden from March and has an output of up to 370 Wp. The module will also receive an additional middle support strut on the bottom from the end of this year. This increases stability and improves the appearance as the cable and junction box are hidden. The module not only gains in terms of aesthetics, but can also carry higher snow loads than the previous model.
The new glass-glass solar module from Solarwatt uses bifacial cells that convert both the sun's rays on the top and the light from the bottom of the modules into clean solar power: "The bifacial half-cell modules are particularly worthwhile when they are... a free-standing roof structure such as a carport or a parking lot roof, where light comes in from both sides.
The cells, which are photoactive on both sides, enable additional electricity yields of up to 10 percent in a carport,” explains Norbert Betzl, Director Product Management Solar Modules at Solarwatt.
Solarwatt will bring the first framed standard module with abZ onto the market in 2020
With the Vision 60M construct, Solarwatt brought Germany's first framed standard module onto the market in 2020 that has general building authority approval. The solar modules can also be used for overhead and facade installations without individual testing, as they meet all safety requirements. And demand from customers is great: Since the market launch of the long-lasting glass-glass solar module, the Dresden company has already covered parking spaces with a total size of over 140,000 square meters, which is equivalent to around 20 football fields.
Building-integrated photovoltaics enable additional areas such as facades to be used to generate solar power. It can also be used to create partially transparent roof structures for terraces, carports or large parking spaces that generate clean electricity and protect the area underneath from wind and weather. “In more and more federal states it is becoming mandatory for parking spaces to be covered with solar modules. Our modules are perfectly designed for this application. They can be used without additional safety structures, which enables extremely aesthetic implementations,” emphasizes Norbert Betzl.

Solarwatt is relaunching a glass-glass module with general building authority approval
Save costs with general building approval
The Panel vision construct and Panel vision sky modules have general building authority approval (abZ) ☑️ and are approved as construction materials for overhead applications. This means that separate approval for the respective construction project is not required. There is also no need for additional security.
The semi-transparent glass-glass module from Solarwatt – Vision 60M | 305, 310, 315 and 320 watts – partial transparency of 10%
In 2014, Solarwatt brought the first photovoltaic module with general building approval (abZ) onto the market. As a veranda and carport module with 36 cells.
In 2020, Solarwatt introduced the successor model Vision 60M with an output of 305 to 320 watts. The glass-glass module is considered a regulated building product throughout Germany that can be used without restrictions in private and public areas. A separate building permit is therefore not required.
